Vandalism

Police list some cases of Halloween vandalism reported to them by local property owners.

Sometime between 9:30 pm on October 31, and 5 am on November 1, someone vandalized an unspecified number of residential mailboxes in the vicinity of Osborn Hill Road, Charter Ridge Road, and Sutherland Drive, police said.

Also, police said that sometime between the night of October 30, and the morning of November 1, someone spray-painted graffiti on several fences in the vicinity of Far View Drive and Brook Bridge Drive.

Also, police said someone threw strands of toilet paper over vegetation at a property near the intersection of Mile Hill Road and Queen Street.

Police are investigating the property damage and ask anyone with information on who committed the crimes to contact them by telephone at 426-5841 or at 270-8888.

Drug Paraphernalia

Police report that school administrators at Newtown High School searched a 16-year-old girl’s vehicle there on October 30, and found a pipe that is typically used to smoke marijuana located in that vehicle.

Police charged the girl with possession of drug paraphernalia.

The girl was released into her mother’s custody on a written promise to appear for a November 9 arraignment in Danbury Youthful Offender Court, police said. State law prohibits police from disclosing the identities of people under 18 whom they arrest.

Jewelry Found

A small round earring was found on October 31 at the rear of Edmond Town Hall at 45 Main Street. The owner may claim the item by contacting Sergeant Darlene Froehlich at the police station at 3 Main Street, telephone 426-5841.

SUV Vs Pickup

Police report an accident involving a sport-utility vehicle and a pickup truck about 6 pm October 18 on Route 34, near its intersection with Wasserman Way.

In that incident, eastbound motorist Christopher Stites, 36, of 6 Little Brook Lane, who was driving a 1993 Dodge Dakota pickup truck, stopped for traffic conditions, after which he was struck from behind by motorist Remy Raphael, 16, of Danbury, who was driving a 2004 Ford Expedition SUV, police said.

There were no injuries. Raphael received a written warning for following too closely.

High School Arrest

On the morning of October 30, a 17-year-old girl at Newtown High School was arrested on a charge of breach of peace after she began screaming and using profanity, thus disrupting school activities, according to police.

After processing the case, police released the girl into the custody of her father on a written promise to appear for a November 16 appearance in Danbury Youthful Offender Court. State law shields from disclosure the identities of people under age 18 who are charged with criminal offenses.

Two Cases

Police report an incident late on the night of November 3 in which they charged a motorist with one offense, and then learned that they held a warrant for his arrest in connection with a previous incident.

Police said motorist Adalberto Romero, 29, of Southbury was involved in a motor vehicle accident with a deer near 184 Mt Pleasant Road.

On initial investigation, police charged Romero with driving while under suspension.

After further investigation, police learned that they had an outstanding warrant pending against Romero in connection with a May 2005 motor vehicle accident that occurred at the intersection of Mile Hill Road and Queen Street.

Police then additionally charged Romero with failure to respond to an infraction, driving without a license, and failure to have automotive insurance.

Police said they held Romero on $500 bail for a November 5 court appearance.

South Main Crash

About 6:30 pm November 3, firefighter Michael Easter, 23, of 57 Turkey Hill Road was driving a Ford Excursion SUV, which is owned by the United Fire Company of Botsford, northward on South Main Street and then making a right turn into a parking area at 259 South Main Street, police said.

At that time, northbound motorist Jessica Thompson, 23, of 4 Bradley Lane, who was driving a Dodge Stratus, attempted to pass the Ford on the right road shoulder, police said.

The vehicles collided. There were no injuries.

Easter was not on a fire call, but was on fire company business at the time of the collision, police said.

Police issued Thompson an infraction ticket for passing on the right.

Six Charges

Early on the morning of November 3, police served an arrest warrant against Mariano Quinones, 26, of Meriden, lodging six charges.

The arrest stems from an August 26 motor vehicle incident, police said.

Police charged Quinones with second-degree failure to appear in court, driving with a defective windshield, driving without a license, failure to display marker plates, improper use of marker plates, and theft of marker plates.

Police said they held Quinones on $5,000 bail for a November 5 court appearance.

Volvo Vs Deer

About 7 am on October 31, motorist Jill LeBlanc, 40, of 6 Oak Ridge Road was driving a 2004 Volvo XC-90 eastward near 153 Sugar Street, when she saw a deer appear and attempted to stop, but collided with the animal, police said.

Neither LeBlanc, nor four child passengers were injured, police said. Police took no enforcement.

Fake Gun

State police report a road rage incident involving two motorists on eastbound Interstate 84 in the vicinity Exit 9/Exit 11 late on the night of November 3.

One of the drivers displayed what was believed to be a handgun to the other driver, state police said.

State police were informed of the incident, after which they went to the area to investigate. They found the driver who had displayed the device and learned that it was a replica of a handgun, not an actual handgun, they said.

Police then charged the offending 17-year-old male driver with brandishing a facsimile firearm and with breach of peace.

State police released the youth on $2,500 bail for a November 9 arraignment in Danbury Youthful Offender Court. State law prohibits police from disclosing the identity of people under age 18 who are charged with crimes.

DUI Arrest

About 3:15 am November 3, state police received some E-911 telephone calls about a motorist who was driving erratically on westbound Interstate 84 between Exit 10 and Exit 9, so they went to the area to investigate.

State police said they spotted a driver who was weaving and speeding on the highway, after which they stopped him to investigate.

After giving him sobriety tests, state police charged Shaun Popper, 21, of New Fairfield with driving under the influence, speeding, and with a travel lane violation.

Popper posted $500 bail for a November 12 court appearance.

High Speed

State police report that at about 9 pm November 2, they detected motorist Matthew Lent, 29, of Waterbury driving more than 100 miles per hour on westbound Interstate 84, near Exit 10, so they stopped him to investigate.

State police said Lent failed sobriety tests and was arrested on charges of driving under the influence and reckless driving.

Lent was scheduled for arraignment on the charges in Danbury Superior Court.

Saturn Off Road

State police said motorist Trishia Vaneron, 38, of Brookfield was driving a 2005 Saturn Ion in the left lane on eastbound Interstate 84, west of Exit 9, about 7:30 am November 2, when the auto went onto the right road shoulder, hit some guardrailing and then went down an embankment. Ambulance staffers transported Vaneron to Danbury Hospital for treatment of injuries, state police said.

Volvo Vs BMW

Police report a two-car collision on Church Hill Road about 7:20 am November 1.

Eastbound motorist Ronald Martino, 42, of 19 Mountain Manor Road, who was driving a 2007 BMW 530-XI, slowed to a stop due to traffic conditions, police said.

Eastbound motorist Emily Loose, 17, of 7 Arthur’s Court, who was driving a 2006 Volvo S-40, then struck the rear end of the BMW, police said.

There were no injuries. Police verbally warned Loose for failure to keep a reasonable distance apart.

Ford Ranger

Motorist Bobby Farris, 53, of Southbury was driving a 2002 Ford Ranger pickup truck westward on Church Hill Road, near Dayton Street, about 6:40 am November 5, when a deer ran onto the street in front of the Ford, resulting in a collision, police said.

Farris was not injured. Police took no enforcement.

Honda Pilot

Motorist Joan Plouffe, 43, of 9 Sturges Road was driving a 2006 Honda Pilot SUV westward on Sugar Street, near Drummers Lane, about 6:30 pm October 31, when a deer came out of the woods and went onto the road, police said.

After the SUV and the deer collided, the animal ran off into the woods, police said. Neither Plouffe, nor four passengers, were injured. All people were seatbelted. Police took no enforcement.

SUV Vs SUV

Police report an accident involving two sport-utility vehicles at the Main Street parking area in front of Newtown General Store about 3:50 pm October 30.

The accident involved motorist Cindy Cullen, 50, of Monroe, who was driving a 2006 Honda CRV, and motorist Joyce Losito, 48, of Watertown, who was driving a 2005 Ford Escape, police said. There were no injuries. Police said they issued Cullen an infraction ticket for driving without a license.

Hawleyville Crash

A two-vehicle accident occurred about 7:45 am November 6, during the morning rush, at the end of westbound Interstate 84’s Exit 9 off-ramp in Hawleyville.

Police said motorist Stefanie Kreipovich, 24, of Manchester, who was driving a 1999 Chevrolet Express van, came off the off-ramp without yielding the right-of-way to motorist Maryann Csire, 61, of Monroe, who was driving a 1999 Toyota Corolla northward on Hawleyville Road. The two vehicles collided. Firefighters and an ambulance crew responded to the accident.

Csire reported pain due to injuries received in the crash, police said. Kreipovich received an infraction ticket for failure to grant the right of way.

Graffiti

Sometime between 3 pm October 26 and 3:30 pm October 31, someone sprayed blue paint on a walkway and a deck at a Far View Road residence, defacing those objects, police said.

Police ask anyone with information on the vandalism to contact them at 426-5841 or at 270-8888.

Town Truck

Midday on November 2, truck driver Paul Martin, 66, of Brookfield went to the police station to report to police an accident that had occurred while he was driving a town-owned 2003 Ford dump truck on South Main Street, police said.

Martin told police that he was driving the town truck southward on South Main Street when he attempted to pass on the right a southbound 1995 Toyota Tercel that was stopped and was attempting to make a left turn into a commercial driveway.

As the truck passed the Toyota on the right, the truck’s tailgate damaged the Toyota’s right exterior rear-view mirror, police said. There were no injuries.

Police said Martin told them that the Toyota’s driver did not want to wait for police to investigate the accident and then drove away. Martin provided police with information on the Toyota, after which police unsuccessfully attempted to reach the Toyota’s owner, who is listed as living in Sandy Hook.

Police verbally warned Martin for improper passing.

Transfer Station

Police report an accident involving a town truck and an automobile at the town’s waste transfer station on Ethan Allen Road late on the morning of November 2.

Police said the collision involved motorist Richard Ciardi, 63, of 17 Housatonic Drive, who was driving a 1996 Saturn SC-2, and town truck driver John O’Hara, 59, of Mt Pleasant Road, who was driving a town-owned 2000 Ford F-350 pickup truck. 

There were no injuries. Police took no enforcement.

Church Hill Collision

Police report a two-vehicle collision near 34 Church Hill Road on the morning of November 6.

Following the accident, each of the two motorists involved in it went to the police station and provided conflicting versions of what had occurred, police said.

The accident involved motorist Joseph McGillicuddy, 51, of Southbury, who was driving a 2001 Mercedes-Benz C-240 sedan, and motorist Karl Sieling, 45, of 22 Chestnut Hill Road, who was driving a 2006 Dodge Ram pickup truck, police said.

There were no injuries. Police took no enforcement.

Bad Checks

Police report they charged James Henry, 40, of Norwalk on a warrant on November 5, lodging two counts of issuing a bad check. After processing the case, police released him on a written promise to appear November 20 in Danbury Superior Court.

Marijuana

Police said they received a complaint on the night of November 6 concerning a suspicious parked vehicle located on Concord Ridge Road, so they went to that area to investigate.

Police said they found some marijuana in that vehicle and consequently charged Tyrone Abrams, 18, of 3 Stone Gate Drive with possession of less than four ounces of marijuana.

After arrest processing, police released Abrams from custody on a written promise to appear November 20 in Danbury Superior Court.

Truck Vs SUV

Police report a two-vehicle accident at the end of Interstate 84’s Exit 11 off-ramp in Sandy Hook during the morning rush about 8 am November 2.

Motorist Pablo Osorio, 26, of Holding, N.Y., who was driving a 2001 Isuzu Trooper, was in the process of making a right turn from the ramp onto eastbound Wasserman Way, when he stopped for traffic conditions, police said.

The Isuzu was then struck from behind by motorist Daniel Parker, 45, of Shelton, who was driving a 1993 Ford F-350 pickup truck, police report

Neither driver was injured. Police issued Parker an infraction ticket for following too closely. They gave Osorio an infraction ticket for driving without a license.
