School Board Is Out Of Touch
School Board Is Out Of Touch
To the Editor:
Last weekâs front page Bee article [âFinance Board Queries Reveal Details On $32 Million Middle School Projectâ] exposes our Board of Education as out of touch, irresponsible, and in disarray. How could they approve a $32 million project âwithout much discussionâ and be clueless on a redundant $2.6 million proposed expenditure?
Education board chair Elaine McClureâs acknowledgement that it was wrong to pass the capital expenditures without full public disclosure on it specifics and that âPeople will make mistakesâ is just plain weak and unacceptable.
Finance board chair John Kortze said, âThe leadership of the school system needs to do a better job.â No kidding! Granted, Board of Education members serve in a voluntary capacity. But, they themselves sought elected positions that carry huge fiduciary responsibilities â and they donât seem to want to play by the rules.
After this episode who can ever trust this board again?
Sincerely,
Frederick G. Roy
