Listen & Learn About Living with Arthritis
Bridgeport â St Vincentâs Medical Center is sponsoring a free talk open to the general public titled âLiving with Arthritisâ as part of its Fall Listen & Learn Lecture Series. The talk is set for Thursday, November 15, from 11 am to noon, at Spring Meadows, located at 6949 Main Street in Trumbull (across from St Stephenâs).
Featured speaker Joao Nascimento, MD, FACP, FACR, will provide the latest on arthritis treatment and management, so that sufferers can go on to lead the most healthful, active lifestyle possible
Arthritis is a condition in which the breakdown of cartilage causes bones to rub together resulting in pain, stiffness, and inflammation. It currently affects one of every seven people in the United States. There are several types of arthritis, but the most common forms are osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis.
Dr Nascimento, a native of Portugal, earned his medical doctorate from the Universidade de Lisboa in Lisbon, Portugal. After completing his residency in internal medicine at Bridgeport Hospital, he completed a Fellowship in Rheumatology at Brown University in Providence, R.I. Dr Nascimento is Board Certified in internal medicine and rheumatology. He is clinical assistant professor of medicine at Columbia University and is chief of rheumatology at St Vincentâs Medical Center. A recipient of the 2004 Connecticut Magazineâs Best Doctor in Rheumatology Award, he has also been a recipient of the Castle Connolly Guides Top Doctor Award for the New York Metropolitan Area for the past seven years. He additionally operates a private practice at 3203 Main Street in Bridgeport.
