Irene (Stefura) Ellison

Irene (Stefura) Ellison, 74, wife of the late Franklin H. Ellison, Jr of Bridgeport, died November 7 in her home with her family beside her.

She was the mother of Edith M. Poidomani of Newtown.

Mrs Ellison was born in Bridgeport on August 23, 1925, the daughter of the late Paul and Catherine (Churma) Stefura. She was a member of the Council of Catholic Women and a longtime parishioner of Sts Cyril and Methodius Church.

In addition to her daughter, she is survived by four sons, Frank J. Ellison of Milford, Stephen J. Ellison of Wynantskill, N.Y., Paul A. Ellison of Bridgeport and James A. Ellison of Stratford; three other daughters, Irene F. Ellison and Catherine M. Ellison and Paulette R. Ellison, all of Bridgeport; one sister, Helen P. Bednar of Stratford; six grandchildren, Todd S. Ellison, Nicole S. Ellison, Alyssa M. Ellison, Tasos J. Manalis, Ronald M. Poidomani, Jr, and Edith M. Poidomani; and several nieces and nephews. Mrs Ellison was pre-deceased by four brothers, Stephen, John, George and Paul Stefura and one sister, Mary S. Stefura.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, November 12 at 8 am in the Galello-Luchansky & Samorajczyk Funeral Home, 2189 Barnum Avenue, Stratford, and at 9 am in Sts Cyril and Methodius Church with a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will follow in St Michael Cemetery.

Calling hours were scheduled for Thursday, November 11, from 4 to 8 pm.

You are correct, Bruce. I know how hard these plans are to put together, but I still believe that we can have more definitive and measurable goals. I know there are a number of units coming online, and the community truly needs them. If only we can move the development of affordable housing to more of a partnership between the community and the developers than the adversarial tug-of-war it seems to be now, that would be good progress.

I agree, but we need to make sure they are pedestrian activated. The ones on Glover were supposed to be by order of the Police Commission, but the ones installed by Public Works were the cheaper flashing light. A couple of extra dollars are worth the lives it can save.

We have been doing the planning work. The State of Connecticut mandates every municipality to develop an affordable housing plan under C.G.S. §8-30j by June 1, 2022, to specify how they “intend to increase the number of affordable housing developments in the municipality.” In lieu of all eighteen municipalities in the Western Connecticut Region duplicating efforts to research, document and analyze affordable housing, the Council of Governments decided to work collectively by splitting the work into two parts: Regional Toolbox Specific, Policy Driven Municipal Annexes.

Great Idea. We used a similar process when Pat Llodra wanted input on Fairfield Hills. very useful.
