George Downs

George Downs, 62, of 160 Mt Pleasant Road, Newtown, died at his home on November 7.

Born February 19, 1937 in New York, N.Y., a son of the late George Downs, Sr and Mary (Shkira) Downs Merck, he was an area resident for most of his life. Mr Downs was a graduate of Henry Abbot Technical School, Danbury. He was employed for many years as an auto mechanic for several dealerships including Colonial Ford and Action Motors, prior to his retirement two years ago due to illness. Mr Downs was a member of the Loyal Order of Moose, Lodge #1373 in Danbury.

Mr Downs is survived by two sons, Michael J. Downs of New Milford and George Downs, III of Nashua, N.H.; two sisters, Mary Roosevelt of Southbury and Barbara Downs of Danbury; four grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was pre-deceased by a brother, Robert Downs, and a sister, Jean Johnson.

The Bethel Funeral Home, 215 Greenwood Avenue, was in charge of arrangements.
