Volleyball Team's Season Ends Despite Valiant Effort

WOODBRIDGE — Newtown High School's girls' volleyball team, the No. 13 seed, put forth a tremendous effort but could not get past host and No. 4 Amity in the Class LL State Tournament's second round on November 7.

Amity prevailed 3-0 (25-19, 25-23, 25-18) and moves on to host No. 5 Glastonbury in the quarterfinals.

Gianna Galassi registered 13 kills; Allie Nowacki had four aces, three kills, and a block; Cassie Pickering logged three kills; and Ava Lombardo compiled 23 assists. Emily Daoust and Addy Cordova led Newtown's defensive effort with key digs to keep the ball in play.

Amity played strong defense and racked up blocks and digs to limit Newtown to 23 kills and five aces.
