Edmond Town Hall will welcome the celebrated author Dani Shapiro as the guest speaker for the next installation of “Newtown Talks: Conversations on Culture, Society, and Change.”

Shapiro will speak on Thursday, November 21, at 7 pm, sharing insights from her prolific career and discussing the themes explored in her bestselling works, including her memoirs and novels that have captivated readers around the world.

Her most recent release, the 2022 novel Signal Fires, was a Time Best Fiction Book of the Year, an NPR Book of the Year, and winner of The National Jewish Book Award, among other honors.

Her previous book, 2019's Inheritance: A Memoir of Genealogy, Paternity, and Love, quickly became a New York Times bestseller and was heralded for its powerful examination of secrets and truths within family dynamics. It won the 2019 National Jewish Book Award, and was named a best book of 2019 by Elle, Vanity Fair, Wired and Real Simple.

Shapiro’s work has been published in 14 languages. Her book on the process and craft of writing, Still Writing, was reissued last year on the occasion of its tenth anniversary. She occasionally teaches workshops and retreats, and is the co-founder of Sirenland Writers Conference in Positano, Italy.

Shapiro is also well known for her hit podcast “Family Secrets.”

Her talk at Edmond Town Hall promises to be a profound, engaging experience, offering attendees a rare opportunity to connect with an author whose words have inspired so many.

Tickets are $35 general admission, with a limited number of VIP tickets at $50, which include reserved seating and an exclusive “jump the line” book signing opportunity with Shapiro following her talk.

This event is part of the “Newtown Talks” series, moderated by Newtown residents Suzy DeYoung and Lee Shull and designed to bring thought-provoking voices to the community to discuss culture, society, and personal journeys of transformation.

Each speaking engagement will be followed by an audience engaging Q&A session and a book signing, offering attendees a unique opportunity to meet the speakers and have their books signed. Books will be available in advance and for purchase the night of the event provided by Byrd's Books in Bethel.

The series will continue in December with Brian Reed, who will delve into storytelling, investigative journalism, and the impact of audio media in today’s digital age; January 16, with actor Anthony Edwards and author Stephen Mills speaking their advocacy for social justice and their personal journeys in making a difference for men who are survivors of sexual abuse; and conclude “later in 2025” with New York Times best-selling author Tara Westover.
