Girls' Volleyball Team Wins State Playoff Opener

In Class LL State Tournament action on November 7. the No. 6 Newtown High School girls' volleyball team hosted No. 27 Middletown in the first round and bounced back from its conference title match setback with a 3-0 (25-8, 25-21, 25-15) victory.

Gabby Soltis had five of Newtown’s ten aces to go along with three kills, 20 assists, and four digs. Liz Anesi and Zosia Teraszkiewicz both collected eight kills and had four and six digs, respectively. Sarah Hubner logged two aces and ten digs. Sara Heinen added four kills. Allie Nowacki and Ava Lombardo both had three kills and Lombardo tallied 15 assists. Cassie Pickering, Addy Cordova, and Lauren Murphy added kills in the win.

The Nighthawks advance and will host No. 11 Greenwich in the second round on Thursday, November 9, at 5 pm.
