Louis Gerard Cuomo, 90, of Newtown died November 2. Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., in 1926, he was the son of Madeline (Griffin) Cuomo and Luigi Cuomo. Affectionately known as "Brother" and "Jerry," he was the loving husband of Marie G. Cuomo, and a resident of Newtown for 40 years.

Mr Cuomo attended The New York School of Printing in Manhattan, and served in the US Army in Asia during World War II, and later earned a bachelor's degree in business from Pace College.

He married his beloved Marie Amorosi in 1952.

He worked in the advertising and printing business in Manhattan and the greater New York City area throughout his career, and he was known for his keen eye for color. A longtime resident of New York, Mr Cuomo moved to Hazlet, N.J., in 1957, where he raised three children with Marie and was a volunteer for the Boys Scouts. When his employer relocated to Stamford in 1976, he moved to Newtown with his wife and son, Stephen. In 1992, he retired and pursued a more relaxed lifestyle, spending time with his grandchildren, pursuing his love of boating and fishing, and spending winters with his brother, Jack, in the Florida Keys.

A longtime member of St Rose of Lima Catholic Church, Mr Cuomo was beloved by many for his relentlessly positive outlook and warm personality. He was quick with a joke, and always had a song in his heart. Besides boating and fishing, he loved football, big band music, gardening, puttering around the house, and sharing his wisdom with his children and grandchildren.

His wife, Marie Cuomo; sister, Claire Lane; daughter Lisa (Cuomo) Lorenson; son Stephen; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews survive him. His brother Jack and son Douglas predeceased him.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, November 12, at 12:30 pm in St Rose of Lima Church, 46 Church Hill Road, Newtown.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to the American Macular Degeneration Foundation by visiting macular.org.

The Honan Funeral Home, 58 Main Street, Newtown, is serving the family.
