PanCan Walk Steps Off At Bethel HS November 13

BETHEL — The rescheduled inaugural Fairfield County Pancreatic Cancer Research Walk takes place this Sunday, November 13, at Bethel High School.

Due to inclement weather, the Fairfield County Walk was rescheduled from October 30.

The preregistration fee is $50 and walk-in registration fee is $60. Registration opens at 9:30 am, and the walk starts at 11.

Preregistered participants have already raised almost $52,000 for the cause, according to the Lustgarten Foundation, which is organizing the event.

Ellen Klaus, Julie Dunn, and Karen Rowe were inspired to join the fight against pancreatic cancer because they were all personally affected by the loss of someone very close to them to the disease.

“We want to continue the fight in their name and memory and in honor of all those who have been affected by pancreatic cancer,” the organizers stated in a release. “We started a walk to raise money for much needed research and also to raise awareness about this cancer and its dreadful statistics.”

The Bethel walk organizers said participating in events like the one this weekend is a way to bring people together and change the face of pancreatic cancer.

“We feel hopeful that increasing awareness and raising funds to support more research is the key to advancements in the early detection and treatment of pancreatic cancer for future generations,” they said.
