Music Centre’s ‘Nutcracker’ Back For Three Performances

DANBURY — Danbury Music Centre’s 33rd annual community production of The Nutcracker Ballet will take place at Danbury High School on Friday, December 8, at 7:30 pm, Saturday, December 9, at 6 pm, and Sunday, December 10, at 3 pm.

Joining Brookfield resident and artistic dealer Arthur Fredric are New York City director and choreographer James Robey and Danbury resident James E. Humphreville, music director of Danbury Symphony Orchestra. The 60-piece orchestra and 180 dancers from the greater Danbury community will perform the popular and universally loved ballet.

In the starring role of Sugar Plum Fairy is Sarah-Elizabeth A. Haddad from Danbury. Partnering the Sugar Plum Fairy is James Robey, dancing the role of the Cavalier. Erica Harris from New Milford is returning this year in the roles of Arabian Dancer and Dew Drop.

Also returning in the role of Drosselmeyer is Danbury resident and well-known actor Brad Bechard, and Mother Ginger will be performed by State Representative Mark Boughton. Clara will be danced by Samantha Swetz from Poughquag, N.Y.

In addition to the featured roles, the cast includes children, teenagers and adults dancing the parts of Battle Mice, Soldiers, Party Boys and Girls, Party Adults, Angels, Snowflakes, Flowers, Ginger Children, along with local dancers representing the countries of Russia, Spain, China and Arabia.

Among the local children participating in this year’s production are the following Newtown and Sandy Hook residents: Rachel Fisher, Brittany Ford, Chelsea Ford, Michelle Haitz, Mary Lynn Kopcik, Timothy Lacouture, Morgan Milano, and Rebecca Pennucci.

Tickets are $10 each and all seats are reserved. The two-hour ballet is suitable for all ages.

The box office is at Danbury Music Centre, 256 Main Street, and is open weekdays from 9 am until 3 pm and Saturday from 9 am until noon.

Tickets may also be ordered by sending a stamped, self-addressed envelope with a check made payable to Danbury Music Centre and the ticket order. Mail orders will be filled with best available seats.
