General Store

Is Sold

The Gleason Group and Hal Kurfehs of Scalzo Commercial this week announced the sale of the Newtown General Store to Peter Leone, who also owns For Pete’s Sake deli in the Stony Hill section of Bethel.

The sale transferred the business assets from Nimer Enterprices to Mr Leone, who lives in Newtown. There will be a transition period up to January 1, 2001, when Mr Leone will devote his full attention to the business, Mr Kurfehs said.

During the next six weeks, Mr Leone will make improvements to the premises. The business, located on Main Street next to Edmond Town Hall, will remain open during the renovations.

“I have known Peter Leone for six years when I brokered the sale of Gold’s Delicatessen in Bethel to him,” Mr Kurfehs said. “Sales at Gold’s had been sagging. Peter changed the name to For Pete’s Sake and his energy and enthusiasm were instrumental in turning the operation to the thriving business it is today.”

“Peter is quite excited about the Newtown General Store and I’m sure he will make Newtown proud,” Mr Kurfehs added.

The sale involved only the business. The building itself is owned by Robert Hall, the attorney whose offices also are in the building.
