'Underutilized And Exceptional Native Trees And Shrubs,' Wednesday With Garden Club
The next presentation of The Town & Country Garden Club of Newtown will be on "Underutilized and Exceptional Native Trees and Shrubs."
The emphasis of the program will be on rare and unique garden worthy forms. Adam Wheeler, from Broken Arrow Nursery in Hamden, will discuss the ornamental qualities and pertinent cultural details of these special plants and illustrate them through high quality imagery.
A selection of plants will be on hand for viewing and purchase.
The propagation and plant development manager at Broken Arrow Nursery, Mr Wheeler started work at the nursery in 2004 after completing his Bachelor of Science degree in Urban Forestry and Landscape Horticulture at the University of Vermont.
At the nursery, Mr Wheeler manages plant propagation, container production, mail order, and the acquisition and development of new plants.
He is a recent recipient of the Young Nursery Professional Award from the New England Nursery Association. He loves to share his passion for plants through photography and educational outreach. As a result, he lectures widely on a variety of subjects and is also an adjunct lecturer at Naugatuck Valley Community College and the Berkshire Botanical Garden.
In his spare time he enjoys cultivating his eclectic collection of rare and unusual plants, rock climbing, and competitive giant pumpkin growing.
The program will be presented Wednesday, November 9, at Newtown Senior Center, 14 Riverside Road.
Town & Country Garden Club social time meetings begin with social time at 6:30 pm, followed by the featured program at 7. There is no fee to attend and all are welcome.
