Dominick E. Barillari, 95, of Sandy Hook died peacefully November 4, with his family by his side. He was a devoted husband, loving father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He was born on January 14, 1921, in San Bruno, Italy, and immigrated to the United States with his family at the age of 5.

He was a proud veteran, having served as a sergeant in the US Army in World War II. When he returned from the war, he married the love of his life, Lorrice, and they raised their family in Bridgeport and Trumbull.

Mr Barillari worked for International Harvester and Fermont Corp. Upon retirement, he helped his son, Richard, with the family Dunkin' Donuts business for 14 years, where he was known to countless employees, customers, and friends as "Grandpa."

He and his wife also cooked meatballs for many of their grandson Richie's Newtown Football pasta parties. He was an avid Yankee fan, who never missed watching a game if he could help it. He loved spending time with his family, and it always put a smile on his face. He was a true family man and always put others before himself.

His son, Richard C. Barillari, and his wife, Patricia; his grandchildren, Richard P. Barillari, Jennifer Kelley and her husband, Patrick, and Ryan Barillari; and his great-grandchildren survive him. He is also survived by his loving niece; daughter-in-law, Cindy Field; sister-in-law, Mamie Howard; and several nieces and nephews. His loving wife, Lorrice; his son, Dominick; his loving sister, Mariana Fahey; and his brother, Bruno, predeceased him.

Memorial donations may be made to the Newtown Ambulance Association, 6 Washington Square, Newtown CT 06470 or the Sandy Hook Volunteer Fire & Rescue, 18-20 Riverside Road, Sandy Hook CT 06482.

Calling hours are Tuesday, November 8, from 4 to 8 pm, at Spadaccino & Leo P. Gallagher & Son Funeral Home, 315 Monroe Turnpike, Monroe. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, November 9, at 10 am, at St Rose of Lima Catholic Church, 46 Church Hill Road, Newtown.
