Hawk Spikers Suffer Second-Round Exit At Simsbury

Newtown High School’s girls’ volleyball team saw its season come to an end in the second round of the Class LL state tournament on November 7. The tenth-seeded Nighthawks traveled to No. 7 Simsbury and the hosts prevailed 3-1 (25-22, 25-17, 17-25, 25-15) to advance to the quarterfinals.
Newtown had advanced with a 3-0 win over Brien McMahon of Norwalk in the first round. The Nighthawks posted a regular-season record of 15-4 and went all the way to the South-West Conference championship match as the No. 2 seed, and fell to top-seeded Joel Barlow of Redding.
