South Main DUI

Motorist Kevin K. Donovan, 26, of Torrington was observed driving erratically on South Main Street about 2:15 am November 7. After Donovan was stopped for an investigation, he failed field sobriety tests, resulting in charges of driving under the influence and failure to keep to the right on a curve, police said.

After processing at the police station, police released Donovan for a November 27 appearance in Danbury Superior Court to answer the charges.

Deer Kill

Motorist Raymond A. Palmer, 39, of Monroe was driving a 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee sport-utility vehicle southbound near 87 South Main Street about 8:45 pm November 7, when a deer ran into the road and collided with the vehicle, police said. The deer died. Palmer was not injured. There was no enforcement action.

Warrant Served

On learning that Daniel J. Riley, 42, of Bridgeport was at Bridgeport Superior Court, Newtown police traveled to that court about 2:30 pm November 7 and served an outstanding warrant against him on a charge of second-degree failure to appear in Danbury Superior Court.

The failure-to-appear charge stems from Riley’s not having appeared in Danbury Superior Court in connection with charges of speeding and operating a motor vehicle while under suspension, which Newtown police pressed against Riley last July, police said.

Police held Riley on a $500 bond for an appearance November 8 in Danbury Superior Court.
