Randolph U. Stambaugh
Randolph Underwood Stambaugh of Newtown died on October 26 at the Danbury Hospital.
He retired as president of B. Altman & Company, the former New York City department store, in 1975.
Born in Hanover, Penn., in 1911, he was a graduate of the Silver Bay School and of Columbia College. He served as a first lieutenant in the United States Navy during World War II. He was a fundraiser for the Columbia Scholarship Fund and the Jewish Hospital of Denver as well as other organizations. His first wife, Virginia (Wiggins) Stambaugh, died in 1987.
He leaves his wife, Mary (Clark) Stambaugh of Newtown; his sister, Mary Shafer of Hanover, Penn.; two daughters, Anne Satterthwaite of West Norwalk and Dana Semeraro of New York City; and three grandchildren.
Burial will be private.
