Organist Will Continue St John’s Concert Series

WASHINGTON — On Sunday, November 19, at 4 pm, the Saint John’s Concert Series will present organist Ken Cowan playing Saint John’s 34-rank Wicks pipe organ. Mr Cowan will be performing work composed for the organ as well as orchestral transcriptions by Edwin Lemare and others.

Tickets are $15 per person and may be reserved by calling the Parish Office at 860/868-2527.

Born in 1974, Ken Cowan is a native of Thorold, Ontario, Canada. He recently graduated from Yale University with a master of music degree, having studied with Thomas Murray under a full scholarship. He was awarded the School of Music’s Charles Ives Award for Outstanding Organ Major.

Prior to attending Yale, he graduated with a bachelor of music degree from Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia, having studied organ under a full scholarship with John Weaver. He has performed for national conventions of the Royal Canadian College of Organists and the Organ Historical Society, and is assistant organist at St. James Church in New York City.

Mr Cowan’s performance will be the final concert in 2000 for the current St John’s Concert series. The season will resume in February with a concert featuring the men’s early music vocal ensemble Lionheart, and then conclude in May with a performance by violinist Colin Jacobsen.

Saint John’s Church is along Route 47 on the Washington Green.
