MILFORD - With a third-place finish in the 200-individual medley and a fifth-place finish in the 200 freestyle relay, the Newtown High School swim team managed a seventh-place finish at the South-West Conference swim championships last weekend.
MILFORD â With a third-place finish in the 200-individual medley and a fifth-place finish in the 200 freestyle relay, the Newtown High School swim team managed a seventh-place finish at the South-West Conference swim championships last weekend.
The 200 medley relay team of Ashley Molden, Kerin Sovern, Margaret Ashey and Katherine Matz came in third at 2:03.34 to start the meet for Newtown, which finished with 133.5 points.
Lauralton Hall won the meet with 506 points.
In the 200 individual medley, Margaret Ashey was 11th at 2:29.25; in the 500 freestyle, Melissa Rushefski was 11th with a time of 5:54.60 and Ashey was 12th with a time of 5:55.13; in the 200 freestyle relay, the foursome of Ashey, Rushefski, Sovern and Matz was fifth with a time of 1:55.13; in the 100 backstroke, Molden finished in a tie for sixth with a time of 1:07.12; in the 100 breaststroke, Sovern was seventh in a time of 1:15.12; and in the 400 freestyle relay, Newtown was seventh in a time of 4:16.02.
The âHawks finished just 23 points behind Joel Barlow, but ahead of Brookfield, Weston, Jonathan Law, Foran, Stratford and Immaculate.
