[naviga:font color="#000000"]Judith Marie “Judi” Petro, 77, of Sandy Hook, died November 5, in her home, surrounded by her family. Born in Bridgeport, she was the daughter of the late Anne and Steven Mudrick.[/naviga:font]

[naviga:font color="#000000"]She graduated from Warren Harding High School in Bridgeport and later received her nursing degree from Mattatuck Community College. She was a nurse at Advanced Allergy and Asthma Care in Danbury for many years before becoming ill. She fought a yearlong battle with cancer and sadly succumbed to the disease.[/naviga:font]

[naviga:font color="#000000"]A brave, beautiful, adventurous spirit, she loved to travel, explore, and hike. Mrs Petro was known as a super strong, protective, straight shooter with a dry sense of humor paired with a sweet, tender, loving soul. Her loved ones say she was one of a kind, so incredibly special, and unique. Up until her diagnosis, she practiced yoga and Pilates regularly, walked/ran 5Ks, zip-lined, rock scrambled, ice climbed, traveled, and was pretty much up for anything exciting and fun. But of all the things she loved, none compared to the love she had for her wonderful husband, Jim, of 56 years, and for her girls, Amie and Melissa, and of course, for her beautiful grandchildren, Liliana, Nathan, and Simon.[/naviga:font]

[naviga:font color="#000000"]Her family says, “She was our star, our ocean, our universe, and will be deeply missed.”[/naviga:font]

[naviga:font color="#000000"]Her loving husband, Jim; daughters, Amie and her husband, Mark, and Melissa and her husband, Julian; son, James; devoted sister, Barbara Cannaverde; brother, Richard, and his wife, Marilynn; nieces; her loving sister-in-law, Maureen and her husband, Ted; sister-in-law Irene; grandchildren, Liliana, Nathan, and Simon; and many other wonderful relatives, friends, and loved ones survive Mrs Petro. [/naviga:font]

[naviga:font color="#000000"]Her brothers-in-law, Tony and George, predeceased her.[/naviga:font]

[naviga:font color="#000000"]Calling hours will be Thursday, November 8, from 3 to 7 pm, in Munson–Lovetere Funeral Home, 235 Main Street North, Southbury, with a celebration of her life immediately afterwards at her home in Sandy Hook. All are welcome.[/naviga:font]

[naviga:font color="#000000"]In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the American Cancer Society at [naviga:u]cancer.org[/naviga:u].[/naviga:font]
