*The Blue Z over on South Main Street has three shows during the upcoming week, including one by my editorial cohort JOHN VOKET. John has an acoustic set planned for Thursday, November 12, from 7 to 9 pm.

Then PHIL & HARRISON will co-headline on Friday night, the 13th, also starting at 7. THE HIP REPLACEMENTS, performing classic rock, will follow on Saturday, 7:30 to 9:30 pm.

*Another week, another venue gets a name change. This time it’s back to a former name.

The Chevrolet Theatre in Wallingford will return to its previous moniker, Oakdale Theatre, effective immediately.

*Redding will begin hosting a new music series this weekend when BOCK & BLU, KEVIN McINTYRE, TIM LYONS and NICK MARS perform original music as part of The Rancho Cucamonga Songwriter’s Showcase on Friday, November 6. Performances will begin at 7:30 pm

Bock & Blu is led by Steely Dan assistant arranger Gary Blu, with Barbara Bock on vocals. The band also include Andy Abel on guitar, Brian Doherty on drums and Al Renino on bass. I’m told their music “straddles the line between adult oriented rock and cool modern jazz.”

The series will be presented at Redding Community Center, 37 Lonetown Road, usually on the first Friday of each month (although I see that the next two shows on the schedule already break that rule). Admission is $10 in advance or $12 at the door, half price for seniors and children. Call Redding’s Parks & Recreation Department at 203-938-2551 to order tickets or for additional information.

Upcoming shows have already been scheduled including David Morgan on Saturday, December 5; Brooks William on Friday, January 8; Bob Franke on February 5; and Kevin Briody on April 9.

Until next week, I’ll be seeing you… on the road.

Questions and comments should be sent to Shannon Hicks c/o The Newtown Bee, 5 Church Hill Road, Newtown CT 06470, or shannon@thebee.com, or call the office at 426-3141. Shows listed at clubs are for ages 21 and over unless specified.
