Sensible Changes To The Health

System

(The following letter to Congressman Chris Murphy has been received for publication.)

Dear Congressman Murphy:

Thank you for the time spent with me at the Waterbury Chamber of Commerce meeting recently, and for accepting T.R. Reid’s book The Healing of America. His in-depth description of other health care systems worldwide, good and bad, gives important guidelines for developing sensible changes, including tort reform in our own system.

This is not a call for sweeping government takeover. We must not give our children the message that turning over full control to a bureaucracy solves everything. That only causes resentment of the mindless overregulation by all sorts of public agencies. Case in point, full traffic-light cycles (green to yellow to red) instead of blinking during periods of light traffic. When the public can safely take care of themselves at an intersection without teaching, government is in control.

Many thanks for the serious manner with which you examine public concerns.

Sincerely,

Paul E. Allen
