MRT & EMT Classes Forming
Course registration and an open house for residents interested in upcoming medical response technician (MRT) and emergency medical technician (EMT) will be held at Stony Hill Fire Department Route 6 on Sunday, November 8, from 3 until 6 pm. State certified EMS instructors will be on hand to answer questions, accept registration forms, and hand out materials.  Â
Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps will host the MRT class at the Kendro Training Facility on Peckâs Lane. Stony Hill Fire Department will host the EMT class.
Both courses will begin Tuesday, November 10, at 6 pm. Classes will meet Tuesdays and Thursdays at 6; EMT classes will finish around 10 pm, and MRT will usually end between 8 and 9. Selected Saturday sessions will run 9 am to about 4 pm.
Both courses will be finished by mid-February. The EMT program is about 140 hours and the MRT about 50 hours, so class dates will vary.
Upon registration students will be provided a nationally approved written text book and the additional supplies needed to perform practical sessions. Course Curriculum includes learning CPR, patient assessments for injury and illness, treatment of medical conditions and injury related events, lifting and moving techniques, medical documentation, legal issues, and emergency medical services operations.Â
Upon completion of the course material and classroom sessions, students will sit for an approved State of Connecticut written and practical test.
