Hawley One School One Read Finale

“We have a wonderful assembly planned for you today,” said Hawley Elementary School Principal Joanne Peters to students on Friday, October 30, as the entire school was assembled in the school’s gym to witness the finale to the school’s One School One Read program.

The One School One Read program has the entire school read one book for a month. Families are encouraged to read the book with their children, and the book is also discussed in the classroom. This year’s book was The Trumpet Of The Swan, by E.B. White, and copies were provided to students by the school’s PTA.

To celebrate the culmination of this year’s One School One Read, teachers put on a skit created from a scene in the book. Teachers dressed in white and black to look like swans.

A special gift was also presented to the school during Friday’s event. Graphic artist and illustrator Vinny Albano, husband to Hawley Elementary teacher Donna Albano, gave the school a framed illustration of a picture inspired by The Trumpet Of The Swan that will be hung in the school’s foyer.

On Monday students and parents filled Edmond Town Hall Theater to watch The Trumpet Of The Swan movie. Ms Peters said 400 people attended that event.
