State Police

State police report that while two correction officers at Garner Correctional Institution were attempting to handcuff inmate Somsack Douangdao, 39, for a prison recreational period at the prison at about 10 am on October 27, Douangdao became violent.

State police went to the high-security prison at 50 Nunnawauk Road to investigate and then charged Douangdao with interfering with a peace officer and with assault on a peace officer.

The prisoner was arraigned in Danbury Superior Court the following day, after which his court case was continued to November 12.

Douangdao was being held this week in Northern Correctional Institution in Somers. He is serving a ten-year prison sentence on a conviction stemming from a criminal attempt charge.
