Young Musicians To Open

45th NYS Concert

NORWALK — Norwalk Youth Symphony will open its 45th season with a fall concert on Saturday, November 17, at 8 pm, at Norwalk Concert Hall.

The advanced Principal Orchestra, under the direction of its new conductor, Tara Simoncic, will perform Overture Festivo by Shostakovich and Symphony No. 2 by Borodin.

The intermediate Concert Orchestra, directed by Richard Brooks, will present a musical tribute to the classic film by Stanley Kubrick, 2001: A Space Odyssey, as it plays music from the score including The Blue Danube Waltz by J. Strauss, Sprach Zarathustra by R. Strauss, and a portion of The Planets by Holst.

James Andrews will lead the two young Chamber Orchestras in performances of works by Telemann, Avison, Rimsky-Korsakov and Bach.

Members of the symphony groups come from over 25 towns and communities in Fairfield, New Haven, Litchfield and Westchester counties and represent 70 public and private schools in these areas.

Tickets are $12 for adults and $7 for students and seniors and are available at the door starting at 7:00 pm. Teachers, young musicians interested in joining the Norwalk Youth Symphony, and their parents are admitted free of charge.
