Park & Rec. Foreign Language Program

Newtown Park and Recreation Department is offering a new and unique foreign language program this year. For the first time, French and Spanish classes are being offered to home-school children.

More than 50 children are participating in the program, which comprises two Spanish and one French class. The children are from six to 14 years old. Classes are offered at the Park and Rec. area of Town Hall South on Main Street.

The program has received rave reviews from parents. The children are excited about the lessons. They meet once a week. Classes are designed in a very interactive and orally focused way, stressing the goal of language acquisition.

Christine Rinaldi, a local university professor, teaches the program. Born and raised in France, she spent much of her adult life in Spain. In addition to focusing on the acquisition of a new language, Mrs Rinaldi introduces her students to the wonders and excitement of a foreign culture.

In addition to the home-school program, Mrs Rinaldi teaches the department’s adult classes and classes for children three to five years old. For more information call 270-9468.
