It was a good week for the Newtown High School freshman and junior varsity football teams. Both squads defeated Weston – with the freshman coming out on top by a count of 27-6 and the jayvees coming out on top by a count of 14-0.

In the freshman game, Jeff Levasseur opened the scoring on the first possession and contributed a two-point conversion to put Newtown ahead, 8-0. Strong defensive plays by Dave Marcucilli and Dan Cascone kept Weston scoreless.

Behind the blocking of Matt Selezan, Tony Perretta scored two more first-half touchdowns to put Newtown ahead, 20-0.

In the second half, Derek Pattison forced a Weston fumble in the end zone – where Jessie Girardi pounced on it for the final touchdown of the game. Perretta chipped in the extra point kick.

In the jayvee game, two touchdowns by Ben Bagaglio made all the difference in the win. Bagaglio scored in the first quarter to put Newtown ahead, 7-0, and then the Nighthawks seemed on the move again in the second quarter with strong runs from Bagaglio, Kyle Kirch and Kevin Whipkey – only, they couldn’t add another TD before the half.

In the fourth quarter, Bagaglio scored from 25 yards out to seal the win.

RC Coyle, Adam Rochwarger and Freddie Forrester all had sacks to keep the Weston offense from making a move on the goal line.
