Offers Diabetes Screening

DANBURY — Diabetes mellitus, or high blood sugar, results form a deficiency of insulin, a hormone produced by the pancreas. When the body doesn’t produce insulin, or doesn’t use it correctly, it can’t make use of its main fuel – sugar. Untreated, diabetes can lead to blindness, vascular disease, kidney disease, neuropathy, and other problems.

Could you have diabetes and not know it? Find out at the Danbury hospital Adult health Center’s Diabetes Screening to be conducted on Friday, November 17. The free screening includes a diabetes risk assessment, fingerstick blood sugar test, and blood pressure monitoring, which will be conducted at the Siefert & Ford Family Community Health Center, 70 Main Street in Danbury, from 9 to 11 am. No fasting is required.

The good news is that there is a lot you can do to stay healthy. By keeping your blood sugar under control, you may be able to prevent or delay other serious health problems.
