Nighthawks Advance! Volleyball Team Wins State Opener

Newtown High School's girls' volleyball team, the No. 13 seed in the Class LL State Tournament bracket, defeated No. 20 and visiting Brien McMahon of Norwalk 3-1 in first round action on November 5.

With the win the Nighthawks will travel to No. 4 Amity of Woodbridge Thursday, November 7, for a second round match at 6 pm.

Against McMahon the set scores were 25-18, 25-14, 12-25, and 25-18.

Allie Nowacki had four aces, nine kills, two blocks, and four digs. Gianna Galassi logged three aces, 11 kills, and two digs. Sara Heinen had six kills and three digs. Emily Daoust contributed an ace to go along with 11 digs. Addy Cordova had ten digs. Sarah Hubner logged an ace and six digs. Lauren Murphy had four kills, a block, and a dig. Cassie Pickering had three kills, three blocks, and a dig. Ava Lombardo recorded an ace, 34 assists, and a trio of digs.
