Euclid Quartet At Edmond Town Hall, November 22
Celebrating its 17th anniversary season, Euclid Quartet is known for performances filled with passion, virtuosity, and sensitivity. The have captivated audiences and critics across the country, from Carnegie Hall and school classrooms to radio and television broadcasts.
Newtown Friends of Music has invited the Euclid Quartet to perform on the stage of Edmond Town Hall on Sunday, November 22, at 3 pm.
The quartet’s members represent four continents: violinist Jameson Cooper is from Great Britain, violinist Jacob Murphy is from the United States, violist Luis Enrique Vargas is of Venezuela, and cellist Si-Yan Darren Li hails from China.
Formed in Ohio in 1998, the Euclid Quartet took its name from the famous Euclid Avenue in Cleveland. In 2007, the group was appointed to the string quartet residency at Indiana University at South Bend, where its members teach private lessons and coach chamber music.
Additional highlights of the quartet’s career include significant international recognition as the first American string quartet to be awarded a top prize at the prestigious Osaka International Chamber Music Competition.
Prior to its victory in Japan, the quartet had already won awards in numerous competitions in the US, including the Hugo Kauder International Competition for String Quartets, The Carmel Chamber Music Competition, as well as the Chamber Music Yellow Springs Competition. In 2009, the Euclid Quartet was awarded the esteemed American Masterpieces grant from the National Endowment for the Arts.
The quartet’s program for November 22 will include works by Marsalis, Mendelssohn and Beethoven.
Tickets are $25, cash or check. Students K-12 are admitted free of charge when accompanied by a ticket-holding adult. Students with student ID are also admitted free of charge.

Final ticket sales will also take place the afternoon of the concert. The box office at Edmond Town Hall, at 45 Main Street, will open at 2 pm.
Parking is free behind Edmond Town Hall, and the facility is handicap accessible. An informal reception following the concert will offer concert goers the opportunity to meet and mingle with the musicians.
