Senior services for Newtown seniors are available at the Multipurpose Building on Riverside Road in Sandy Hook. The Senior Center is under the auspices of the Commission on Aging. You may drop in at the Senior Center weekdays between 9 am and 4 pm. A hot meal is served at noon, for which you must reserve three days in advance.
Newtown has daily door-to-door minibus service Monday through Friday. Buses also run all day from the Senior Center to Sand Hill Plaza. On Fridays, the bus alternates between rides to Danbury Fair Mall and Berkshire Plaza in Danbury (to Walmart Route 6). Cost is 65¢ each way for the Sand Hill Plaza trip, 75¢ each way for out of town. Call 203-748-2511 TWO DAYS IN ADVANCE to book a ride and get the out-of-town Friday schedule.

Upcoming Programs
*Waking Ned Devine will be playing on Tuesday, November 16, at 1 pm. The movie is about an entire Irish village that gets caught up in trying to collect a dead manâs lottery winnings.
*Informational meeting for Health Net members only on Tuesday, November 16, at 1:30 pm. Benefit changes for 2011 will be discussed and questions will be answered.
*Fuel assistance applications and Medicare Part D Applications will be accepted between November 15 and December 31. Call the Newtown Senior Center in advance for requirements.
*Thanksgiving bingo will be Wednesday, November 17, at 1 pm.
*AARP driving class will be offered on Thursday and Friday, November 18 and 19, 12:30 to 4:30 pm. Attendance at both sessions is a must. Make checks payable to AARP; $12 for members, $14 for nonmembers. Reservations are required.
*On Wednesday, November 24, 1 pm, watch The Amazing Adventure with Cary Grant. Can he keep his wager to not use his trust fund for one year?
*The Newtown Senior Center will be closed November 25 and 26 in observance of Thanksgiving.

Day Trips
*A tasty Thanksgiving at Mount Haven Resort on Thursday, November 18, includes music, comedy, singing, full breakfast buffet, complete buffet dinner, and four-hour open bar. Cost is $73; depart at 9 am.
*Visit the Wadsworth Atheneumâs museum and holiday tree display, Mark Twain House with Victorian decorations & interiors by Tiffany, and lunch at the Chowder Pot for a Christmas in Connecticut on Friday, December 10. Depart at 9:15 am; cost is $78.
*Senior Van trip on Wednesday, December 15, will stop at the Christmas Tree Shop, then lunch at the Cracker Barrel. Limit is 12.
*Save the date for UConn Womenâs Basketball vs Ohio State on Sunday, December 19, at Madison Square Garden. Departure time and cost to be announced at a later date.
