Elected Lt Governor In Alaska
When Sean Parnell was elected governor of Alaska in Tuesdayâs gubernatorial election, Tuesday, November 2, a Newtown native shared the ticket with him.
Elected to serve as lieutenant governor with Mr Parnell was Anchorage entrepreneur, businessman, and civic leader Mead Treadwell. Mr Treadwell is the son of former a Newtown first selectman, the late Timothy Treadwell, for whom Timothy B. Treadwell Memorial Park on Philo Curtis Road in Sandy Hook is named.
Sean Parnell took over the Alaskaâs highest post in July, after Governor Sarah Palin stepped down.
The election was a costly one for the Republican team. Mr Parnell and Mr Treadwell spent more than $1.2 million to win their seats, with Mr Treadwell contributing nearly $300,000 of his own money to his lieutenant governorâs campaign before the primary.
