Collision In Parking Lot

Newtown Police report Chet Wildman, 22, of Shelton, operating a 2015 BMW 320i, was attempting to back into a parking spot at 1:49 pm October 19. Alessandra Souza, 63, of Sandy Hook, operating a 2024 Mazda CX-90, was backing from a nearby spot. The two vehicles collided.

No injuries were reported. Neither vehicle was towed.

No enforcement action was taken since the incident occurred on private property.

Following Too Close

Newtown Police report Neil Coppola, 21, of Sandy Hook, operating a 1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee, was in the northbound right turn only lane of Queen Street at Church Hill Road at 2:22 pm October 21. He was behind a 2001 Chevrolet Silverado owned by the Town of Newtown and operated by James Hastings, 34, of Newtown, that was stopped at the intersection at the stop light. Coppola’s vehicle rolled forward into Hasting’s vehicle.

No injuries were reported. Neither vehicle was towed.

Coppola was issued a verbal warning for following too close.

Hit Guardrail

Newtown Police report Edgar Dacosta, 41, of Bridgeport, operating a 2010 Ford F150, was traveling northbound on Toddy Hill Road at 5:04 am October 22. Dacosta crossed the centerline, ran off the roadway left, and struck a guard rail on the southbound shoulder of the roadway.

No injuries were reported. The vehicle was towed.

Dacosta was issued an infraction for failure to drive right, and operating a motor vehicle without minimum insurance.

Struck Bridge

Newtown Police report Eric Mills, 41, of Tennessee, operating a 2014 Freightliner tractor trailer, was traveling northbound on Botsford Hill Road at 8:47 pm October 22. The top of the chassis struck the underside of a bridge.

No injuries were reported. The vehicle was not towed.

Mills was issued an infraction for exceeding posted height limit.

Hit Utility Pole

Newtown Police report Mustafa Noori, 24, of Sandy Hook, operating a 2023 Toyota Camry, was traveling southbound on Toddy Hill Road in the area of Vining Road at 11:30 pm October 22. A deer entered the road and caused Noori to cross the centerline to avoid the deer, before leaving the roadway and striking a utility pole.

Noori reported no injuries. The vehicle was towed.

Noori was issued a verbal warning for failure to maintain a lane.

Kia Strikes Audi

Newtown Police report Ana Walsh, 17, of Newtown, operating a 2016 Kia Soul, was traveling north on Washington Avenue at 2:45 pm October 23. She was traveling behind a 2011 Audi Q7 operated by Aidan Lourenco, 16, of Newtown. Lourenco stopped for traffic ahead and Walsh rear-ended his vehicle.

No injuries were reported. Walsh’s vehicle was towed.

Walsh was issued an infraction for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.

Rear-Ended On Berkshire Road

Newtown Police report Andrew Faircloth, 17, of Sandy Hook, operating a 2004 Toyota Sequioa, was traveling westbound on Berkshire Road at 7:37 am October 24. He was traveling behind a 2017 Volkswagen Passat operated by John Meade, 52, of Sandy Hook, which was in turn behind a 2024 Kia Sorrento operated by Jennifer Landgrebe, 50, of Southbury.

Landgrebe stopped to make a left hand turn into a driveway on Berkshire Road, and Meade stopped behind her. Faircloth did not stop in time and rear-ended Meade’s vehicle, which was pushed forward into Landgrebe’s vehicle.

No injuries were reported. Faircloth’s vehicle was towed.

Faircloth was issued an infraction for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.

Caused Vehicle To Swerve Off Road

Newtown Police report Vania Carvalho, 67, of Danbury, operating a 2019 Subaru Crosstrek, was traveling on Currituck Road at the intersection with Hawleyville Road at 5:16 pm October 24. Russell Phillips, 43, of Sandy Hook, operating a 2016 Volvo XC90, was traveling southbound on Hawleyville Road. Carvalho turned onto Hawleyville Road in front of Phillips’ vehicle, which swerved off the roadway to avoid a collision.

No injuries were reported. Neither vehicle was towed.

Carvalho was issued a verbal warning for failure to heed a stop sign.

Electronic Stalking Charge

Newtown Police report that Agaedson Braga turned himself in to the Newtown Police Department on a warrant for his arrest at 6:34 pm October 24.

Braga was arrested and charged with electronic stalking. He was released on a cash bond and given a court date of October 25 in Danbury Superior Court.

Swerved To Avoid Car

Newtown Police report that an unknown vehicle traveling northbound on Huntington Road at 3:48 pm October 25 traveled over the centerline as a 2013 Toyota Highlander operated by Mark Buckley, 49, of Newtown, was traveling in the opposite direction. Buckley swerved off the road to avoid the vehicle .

No injuries were reported. The vehicle was not towed.

Failure To Appear Charge

Newtown Police report Osman Diaz-Escober, 24, of Newtown, was arrested at 9:55 pm October 25 on the charge of second-degree failure to appear. He was released on a promise to appear with a court date of November 12.

Two Arrests Following Report

Newtown Police report that at 7:04 pm October 27, officers were dispatched to the area of South Main Street and Blue Spruce Drive for a report of a man trying to drag a woman out of a vehicle.

After a brief investigation, both the man and woman were arrested.

Rosa Ugarte, 50, of Norwalk, was arrested on the charge of disorderly conduct and released on promise to appear with a court date of October 28 in Danbury Superior Court.

Hebert Chavez-Penate, 51, of Norwalk, was arrested on the charge of operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol or drugs and was released on a $1,000 bond with a court date of November 13.

Leaving A Stop Sign

Newtown Police report Jeffrey Peterson, 63, of Danbury, operating a 2018 Honda Pilot, was stopped at the stop sign of Shepard Hill Road onto Head of Meadow Road at 12:57 pm October 28. Angela Gonzalez, 40, of Newtown, operating a 2012 Honda Accord, was traveling westbound on Head of Meadow Road, turning left onto Shepard Hill Road. While turning left onto Shepard Hill Road, Peterson’s vehicle struck Gonzalez’s vehicle.

No injuries were reported. Neither vehicle was towed.

Peterson was issued a verbal warning for leaving a stop sign prior to being safe to continue.
