Generator Theft

Police report they learned at 12:38 pm on October 21 about a theft that occurred at a Church Hill Road construction site.

Police said that sometime between noon on October 20 and 1:30 pm on October 21, someone stole a portable orange Multiquip-brand electrical generator from the construction site for the Aquarion Water Company's pumphouse that is being built at 12 Church Hill Road, next to the new Newtown Hook & Ladder firehouse.

Police ask anyone with information on the incident to contact investigating Officer Stephanie Vegerano at the police station at 3 Main Street, telephone 203 426-5841.

Three Vehicle Accident

A three-vehicle accident occurred on Berkshire Road, near its intersection with Oakview Road, about 7:20 am on October 27.

Eastbound motorist Kira Kelly, 16, of Newtown, who was driving a 2006 Volvo XC-90, could not stop in time and then struck the rear end of a stopped 2006 Mazda 3 driven by Josef Fiala, 57, of Newtown, pushing the Mazda into the rear end of a stopped 2006 Acura TSX driven by William McCarthy, 48, of Sandy Hook, police report.

There were no injuries. Police said they issued Kelly an infraction for following too closely.

Highway Ramp

About 9:50 am on October 27, motorist Ashley Perry, 23, of Newtown, who was driving a 2000 Mazda Protege, skidded on the wet pavement on westbound Interstate 84's Exit 10 on-ramp, after which the vehicle went out of control and struck some guardcabling along the right road shoulder, state police said.

Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps transported Perry to Danbury Hospital, state police said. Perry received a written warning for traveling too fast for conditions, according to state police.

SUV Accident

State police said that at about 9:52 am on October 27, motorist Hannah Card, 18, of Sandy Hook, who was driving a 2002 Chevrolet Blazer SUV on westbound Interstate 84's Exit 10 on-ramp, lost control of the vehicle, after which it struck some guardcabling off the right road shoulder.

There were no injuries. State police said they issued Card an infraction for traveling too fast for conditions.

Three Hondas

A three-vehicle chain-reaction accident occurred on Mt Pleasant Road, just east of its intersection with Diamond Drive, about 2:53 pm on October 27. All three vehicles were traveling eastward on Mt Pleasant Road.

Police said motorist Eurelia Flynn, 77, of New Milford, who was driving a 2010 Honda Accord, stopped and was waiting to make a left turn into a driveway, after which motorist John Jackson, 70, of Trumbull, who was driving a 2016 Honda Civic, stopped behind the Accord.

Motorist Susanne Zencey, 63, of Newtown, who was driving a 2001 Honda Civic, then struck the rear end of the 2016 Civic, pushing it into the rear end of the 2010 Accord, police said. There were no injuries.

Police said they issued Zencey a written warning for traveling at an unreasonable distance apart.

I-84 Collision

At about 3:53 pm on October 27 on eastbound Interstate 84, west of Exit 9, motorist Thomas P. Cook, Jr, 39, of Milford, who was driving a 2015 Chevrolet Tahoe SUV, stopped for traffic conditions, after which the Chevrolet was struck from behind by a 1995 Chevrolet Corsica driven by Donald Costa, 20, of Naugatuck, state police report.

Cook reported an injury, but refused medical transport, state police said. Costa received an infraction for following too closely, state police said.

Hyundai vs Object

State police report that motorist R.E. Dachenhausen, 75, of Newtown was driving a 2014 Hyundai Accent on westbound Interstate 84, east of Exit 9, about 8:13 am on October 28, when he struck a large metal object that was lying in the right lane of three lanes. There were no injuries.

Interstate DUI Arrest

State police report that at about 2:19 am on October 29, they spotted motorist Douglas Bonjour, 66, of Sandy Hook driving a 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee SUV erratically on eastbound Interstate 84.

State police report they stopped Bonjour near Exit 10 to investigate, after which they arrested him on charges of driving under the influence, speeding, and failure to drive in the proper lane.

After posting $500 nonsurety bail, state police released Bonjour for a November 10 arraignment on the charges in Danbury Superior Court.

Honda Key Found

On October 30, a person turned over to Newtown police for safekeeping an automotive key/fob for a Honda-brand vehicle. The key had been found near the tennis court canopy at Treadwell Park on Philo Curtis Road in Sandy Hook.

The owner may claim the key at the police station, 3 Main Street.

Commerce Road Rear-Ender

Police report a two-vehicle accident on Church Hill at its intersection with Commerce Road amid wet conditions about 5:42 pm on October 30.

Motorist William Morrow, 54, of Middlebury, who was driving a 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee SUV eastward on Church Hill Road, stopped at a red traffic signal, after which that vehicle was struck from behind by a 2004 Jeep Liberty SUV driven by Elizabeth Townsend, 19, of Newtown, police said. The Grand Cherokee was carrying three passengers and the Liberty was carrying two passengers, police said.

Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps transported a Grand Cherokee passenger to Danbury Hospital to be checked for pain, police said.

Police report they issued Townsend a written warning for traveling too fast for conditions.

South Main Crash

Police report that at about 7:43 pm on October 28, motorist Kurt Koloniaris, 26, of Newtown, who was driving a 2003 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck, stopped at a stop sign on Huntingtown Road, as motorist Joseph Diaz, 34, of Ansonia, who was driving a 2001 BMW 530 auto southward on South Main Street.

The Chevrolet then entered South Main Street, resulting in a collision with the BMW, police said. Diaz was transported to Danbury Hospital for treatment of injuries, according to police. Police said they issued Koloniaris an infraction for failure to grant the right of way at a stop sign.

Berkshire Road

Motorist John Kalofolias, 63, of Bridgeport, who was driving a 2002 Chevrolet Tracker SUV, was exiting the driveway at a mulch yard and attempting to enter Berkshire Road, as motorist Emeald Olldashi, 27, of Woodbury was driving a 2001 Subaru Legacy eastward on Berkshire Road at about 6:50 am on November 3, police report. The two vehicles collided.

The accident occurred on Berkshire Road, just west of its intersection with Toddy Hill Road. There were no injuries.

Police said they verbally warned Kalofolias for failure to grant the right of way at a driveway.

Botsford Fire Rescue volunteer firefighters extricated an elderly driver from a SUV that had crashed into a metallic support pole for a traffic signal, early on the morning of October 28. Botsford Fire Chief Wayne Ciaccia said that firefighters spent about 15 minutes extricating the man trapped in the vehicle by removing a door and lifting the vehicle's dashboard off his legs. Police said that motorist Gordan Gray, 85, of Levittown, Penn., was driving a 2016 Jeep northward on South Main Street at about 12:01 am, when the vehicle drove off the road's right shoulder, struck a traffic sign, and then traveled across Botsford Hill Road, where it collided head-on with the pole, heavily damaging the vehicle. Gray had been wearing a seat belt and the vehicle's airbag deployed. Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps transported Gray to Danbury Hospital for treatment of injuries.
