Ahead of the Homecoming Pep Rally on Friday, October 28, Newtown High School held a Spirit Week filled with students and staff dressing and decorating the building to show their school spirit.here.

The week included a Color Wars day, which had different grade levels wearing different colors; Super Hero Day, which had students and staff dress up as super heroes; Decades Day, which had different grade levels dress in the preferred clothing of different decades.

On Thursday, students stayed after school to decorate hallways. Each grade level decorated a different hallway. The junior hallway was decorated with Newtown themes, like the district's Character Tree and the Main Street flagpole. For the senior hallway, a group of seniors worked in the hallway to put the finishing touches on Disney images, including Cinderalla's castle and characters Aladdin and Jasmine, before the hallway would be unveiled for the opening of school Friday.

The finished hallway for the seniors included the words, "Our Big Ex 17."

All grades showed equal spirit throughout the week, according to NHS assistant to the principal Nathalie de Brantes.

The pep rally at the end of the school day on Friday highlighted student groups with announcements and performances. NHS social studies teacher Larry Saladin oversaw the event as the student government advisor and social studies teacher Jason Edwards emceed the event. NHS senior Julia Bogdanoff sang the national anthem to start the pep rally.

The NHS Marching Band & Guard performed this season's show, "Something Wicked This Way Comes - Dark's Pandemonium Carnival," the Varsity Dance Team performed, as did and the Varsity Cheerleaders. Other activities included the "In It To Win It" race for grade level reps to pull tissues from boxes before the other representatives could use up their tissues.
