Costumes Encouraged: Classic Romantic Comedy Ready To Roll For Sunday Cinema Series
Blake Edwards’s 1961 romantic comedy Breakfast at Tiffany’s will be shown at 4 and 7 pm Sunday, November 8, at Edmond Town Hall. Costumes are encouraged and awards will be given to the best look-alikes from the film.
Jen Rogers, coordinator of the Sunday Cinema Series, is looking forward to Sunday.
“There are so many great looks from this film, I can’t wait to see what people choose to wear,” said Ms Rogers, who is also a member of Newtown Cultural Arts Commission. NCAC co-sponsors the film series with the Edmond Town Hall Board of Managers.
Breakfast at Tiffany’s was based on a novella by Truman Capote. Its lead character, the stylish Holly Golightly, was perhaps Audrey Hepburn’s most iconic role, for which she received an Oscar nomination. George Peppard plays Paul (or Fred, as Holly calls him), a struggling writer and “kept man” living upstairs.
Both wear the phony masks of a posh lifestyle, charming, flirting, and partying their way through life in search of somewhere to belong, and someone to love.
Henry Mancini received Oscars in 1962 for Best Music Score and Best Original Song for “Moon River,” which he co-wrote with Johnny Mercer. Mancini also won several Grammy Awards that year for Record of the Year, Song of the Year, and Best Soundtrack Album, among others.
Tickets are $2, and are available at the Edmond Town Hall box office, 45 Main Street.
This screenings are presented by Newtown Cultural Arts Commission, and sponsored by Filet.
The next film in the series will be Sunday, December 13, featuring The Sound of Music. A sing-along screening will be done at 4, and a regular screening will be done at 7, both celebrating the 50th anniversary of the film’s release.
