Sixteen Newtown Middle School students ran for Student Council president and vice president this year and delivered speeches to the rest of the student body on Friday, October 25.

All of the students had multiple steps to go through in order to run for the two positions according to Kim Pereira, who is a Student Council co-advisor alongside Leslie Duda. The students had to submit applications, attend speech practice, and demonstrate that they are good students and capable of leadership. First place will earn the president position, while second place will earn the vice president position.

The student body will vote for who fills the two positions.

Those running include Barbara Andersen, Savannah Cintron, Mya Coleman, Jake Golesky, Kevin Gray, Lillian Grossman, Kinsey Hill, Addison Kopp, Eduardo Magalhaes, Nick Michael, Kenneth Miller, Sofia Recio, Ryan Shalkham, Logan Yagud, Kaela Zemo, and Alison Zhang.
