How would you describe your occupation? I am the general manager at Wheels. We’re a full service gas station and sort of a unicorn for the company. There’s not too many locations that it’s almost always full-service, but it hasn’t changed here in like, 50 years.

Who is in your family? My son, Fisher, who is frequently in [The Newtown Bee], and I have an ex-wife — his mom. Fisher is kind of an athletic star. He’s a senior in high school and he’s been in the paper since he was a little kid. At the moment, he is a wrestler and he plays lacrosse.

Do you have any pets? I have a dog, Dexter.

How long have you lived in Newtown? I lived in Newtown for about 25 years. The last three years, I haven’t been living in Newtown.

What do you like to do in your free time? I try to get to as many of my son’s activities that he’s got going on. This is his senior year in high school, and I will be trying to attend every single one of his wrestling meets and his lacrosse games in the spring.

What is your favorite book? The Catcher in the Rye by Salinger was always my favorite when I was younger, and I don’t think anything surpassed that.

What organization are you a part of in town? I am on the Booster Club for Newtown High School Wrestling. Previous to that, I was on the board for Newtown Youth Wrestling, which is a really great organization and probably the best youth program in all of New England. I was also part of Kevin’s Community Center back in the day.

Who has been the greatest influence on your life? My son, 100 percent.

What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever been given? I don’t know if it’s a piece of advice that I’ve been given, but it is a piece of advice I’ve come to learn and embrace — “don’t sweat the small stuff.” If it’s not important or if it’s a minor thing, just move on and try to move ahead.

What is your proudest accomplishment? I’m just so proud of my son. Everything just keeps coming back to him; he’s been such a focus in my past 18 years. He got into college recently, and I’m just so happy about the path that he’s taken and where he’s going to go. I hope he exceeds his father’s life and what I’ve been able to accomplish, and it looks like he’s going to just crush it.

What’s your favorite travel destination? I like North — I like Maine, I like the Cape. I used to spend time when I was a lot younger in Nantucket, so I like the Northern parts, the shore, the rocky beaches, that kind of stuff. Cape Cod in the summertime is so crowded. If I can get to a place where there’s not a lot of people, that’s great.

What is the best part of Newtown? I like the history and tradition of the town. It’s changed a lot in the last 25 years, but I think a lot of people think it’s changed a lot more than it has. It still retains a lot of the charm — a small town, country type of feel. It has progressed, but there’s still a big ole flagpole in the middle of Main Street, not that many traffic lights, and people are still really nice. There’s cows, sheep and goats around. I think that’s important to keep, and I think we still have it.

What should The Newtown Bee report on in the future? Maybe a little bit more of the surrounding areas. Maybe a little Oxford or Redding, because they don’t really have newspapers that speak for them. I lived in Redding recently for a little bit, and they have nothing there. None of these surrounding towns have anything like The Bee.
