Field Hockey Squad Advances To Title Game

The Cinderella Story continues for Newtown High School's field hockey team. The eighth seed in the South-West Conference tournament, following an upset of top-seeded Joel Barlow of Redding in the quarterfinals, defeated No. 4 New Milford 1-0 in the semifinals, in New Milford, on November 2.
With the win, the Nighthawks move one step closer to, and one step away from, winning a championship.
The Hawks will take on third-seeded Pomperaug of Southbury in the pinnacle game, on Friday, November 4, at New Milford High, beginning at 7 pm.
Newtown broke a scoreless tie in the second half as Megan Goyda assisted Emily Dirga.
Goaltender Nathalie Shaker made a handful of saves and the defense helped the Hawks pick up their second shutout of the tourney.
