Canine Advocate Fundraisers

In The Works

By Nancy K. Crevier

“We have raised about $70,000 so far for the pound,” said Virginia Jess, a member of Canine Advocates, Inc as she discussed some of the upcoming fundraisers that will take place this fall. It will take at least $500,000 to build the pound, however, which Canine Advocates plans to erect on property near the Connecticut Horse Guard on Trades Lane.

The nonprofit organization is hopeful that fundraisers scheduled for the near future will add to the coffers.

The Newtown Bridle Lands Association has invited Canine Advocates to staff a table at the annual Frost On The Pumpkin race this fall, where Canine Advocates will have magnets for sale, as well as accept donations and provide information about membership with Canine Advocates.

On December 2, Ms Jess said, Lexington Gardens will host a wine tasting, with the proceeds going to Canine Advocates.

For further information about the many upcoming events, visit the website at canineadvocates.org.

“We are always looking for volunteers, too,” Ms Jess said, “especially around the holidays.” Interested persons can reach Ms Jess at 426-5327.

“We appreciate donations at anytime, of course,” added Ms Jess. Mail donations to: Canine Advocates, PO Box 236, Newtown CT 06470.
