David And Jo Ann Peck Attend Liberty Party

Commander David Peck and Auxiliary President Jo Ann Peck of VFW Post 308 in Newtown attended the national auxiliary’s annual party on Liberty Island in New York Harbor on October 28 to celebrate the 113th anniversary of the Statue of Liberty.

Auxiliary representatives from several states marched with their flags. Many of their state presidents were present including Connecticut Auxiliary President Janice Wiltshire. National President Lorraine Frier presented a gift of $3,000 to the Statue of Liberty National Monument and Ellis Island National Park Service on behalf of the auxiliaries.  The Palisades Park Fire Band played a patriotic medley and the entire assembly joined hands and sang “America the Beautiful.”

The Pecks said the day was a very moving and educational experience for them.

After the ceremony, National President Lorraine Frier spent three days in Connecticut sightseeing and attending a dinner in her honor at the Stratford VFW Post 9460.
