Women need to understand that emotions are complex. It’s only normal to feel amplified emotions when life changes occur such as having a baby, menopause, changing jobs, relationships, and all the other day-to-day stresses. This discussion will help you understand more about you.

Two-thirds of women are diagnosed with some form of depression at some time in their lives. Women’s brains are wired both to feel and recall emotion more intensely than the brains of men.

Women’s bodies also produce more stress hormones then men’s bodies. After a stressful occurrence, it takes women longer to stop producing the stress hormone.

Emotion, in its most general definition, is a complex psychophysical process that arises spontaneously, rather than through conscious effort. It evokes both a positive or negative psychological response and physical expressions, often involuntary, related to feelings, perceptions or beliefs about elements, objects or relations between them, in reality or in the imagination.

An emotion is often differentiated from a feeling.

This discussion is intended to provide healthy alternatives to dealing with everyday emotions. A question and answer open forum will follow the lecture, providing an opportunity to explore answers to particular topics.

Friends and family are encouraged to attend and all attendees should wear something comfortable!

Attendees are invited to arrive early for refreshments and to register for a “Pink is Fun Basket” drawing. This program is free, open to the public and registration is requested by calling  860-350-7215 or online at www.newmilfordhospital.org.
