Over the past two years, I’ve received e-mail after e-mail from Po Murray. Po has tirelessly kept me and many Newtowners current regarding the goings-on in Newtown government. I have seen her selfless efforts to improve Newtown’s schools evolve into a crusade for our town. She has attracted many followers and supporters along the way, some who are quietly supportive from the background, while others have stepped up to form The Independent Party of Newtown (IPN).

This party was formed by a group of people not previously associated with one another, from different parts of town, of different ages, in different occupations, with one commonality: a desire to make a change to a town they live in and care about. They are Republicans, Democrats, and unaffiliated candidates, united by frustration with Newtown’s present management.

These individuals aren’t politicians, they are accountants, contractors, lawyers, veterans, moms, dads, grandmothers and grandfathers, they are you and me! And they are joining forces and contributing their energy and intellect to make a positive difference in our town. They are ready to work for you, the residents of Newtown. They are approachable and want to hear your ideas and concerns and will work to make your voices heard.

One of the members of the IPN that I ask you to support is my husband Brendan Duffy, who is running in District 3 for a seat on the Legislative Council. Brendan is a supportive husband, fun and loving father, loyal friend and has a strong work ethic. He is positive and enthusiastic, and a man of honesty and integrity. Brendan sees great possibilities for Newtown and is excited by the prospect of giving back to the town where we are raising our children. Many of us complain about how things are handled, but my husband has decided to get involved and make a difference.

Another individual for whom I ask you to support is Lillian Bittman, a Democrat running for a seat on the Board of Education. I have known Lillian for the past four years through her involvement with the PTA, Footprint Post, and her wonderful children. She is an intelligent, hardworking, passionate woman who brings much experience to the board. She has just begun to make changes and I hope she will be given the opportunity to continue to bring them to fruition.

Election Day is right around the corner. I know we all have busy schedules but I ask you to take the time on November 6 to get out and vote. The polls are open from 6 am until 8 pm. If you are unsure of where to vote, visit the IPN website, www.IndependentPartyOfNewtown.com, click on the link in the left hand column, To Find Your Newtown Voting District, and look up your address to find your district polling location. Support the Independent Party of Newtown, support Po Murray, Brendan Duffy and support Lillian Bittman. They will bring about a positive change to Newtown, and will help your voices be heard.
