To the Editor:

We had the pleasure of getting to know Lillian Bittman through our two children. Our children participated in very wonderful extracurricular journalism programs that Lillian developed and has been teaching for many years at Sandy Hook School and Reed Intermediate. How she got such young people to do all the things newspaper people have to do to publish a professional newspaper regularly and with deadlines is still a mystery to us, and the participants of these programs kept coming back year after year. It surely had to do with Lillian’s dedication, perseverance, and great disposition.

We should also mention that she put her heart and soul into this job without financial compensation. Her high level of motivation and professionalism as an involved and caring community member, and as a Mom of three kids moving through the Newtown school system, gives us lots of assurance that she will be a positive force on the BOE.
