To the Editor:

The “Powers That Be” have determined the current budget process is just fine and no new ideas are necessary. They have waged a clever, but disingenuous, disinformation campaign to mislead the public on the IPN platform.

People have confiscated IPN lawn signs because the “Powers That Be” have determined that this is not an appropriate form of expression.

The “Powers That Be” have told us we will have a new town hall at Fairfield Hills whether we like it or not.

The “Powers That Be” don’t want to see candidates from the Independent Party of Newtown elected. They want us to go away and let them get back to the business of running — their — town.

Fortunately, that is one decision not up to the “Powers That Be.” It is up to all of you, the voters.

I am running as a candidate with the Independent Party of Newtown because I want to develop an integrated long-range plan that is a living, breathing document that anticipates the changing needs of our community.

I want to revisit the Fairfield Hills Master Plan with the public to ensure that what we are doing to redevelop Fairfield Hills is to your satisfaction.

I want to make repairs to our schools and recreational improvements, including a senior center, a priority. There is no excuse for letting our schools fall into such disrepair that we must now spend more than $100 million to fix them, or that we have inadequate recreational facilities for our community.

I want to create a better budget process that requires greater justification of annual expenditures, results in a recommended budget that voters can support on the first vote, and that will ultimately lead to a more affordable Newtown for all. There is something wrong when we need four referendums to pass a budget.

I want to create a more open government. One that citizens believe is accountable, has the appropriate checks and balances in place to ensure the best decisions are being made with our tax dollars, and is transparent and responsive to its citizens.

Finally, whether you have lived here 30 years or two years, I want you to feel that your involvement in your government is encouraged and embraced by your elected officials. After all, you pay the bills, and the elected officials work for you. I will be honored to work for you, and humbly request your support on Election Day.

I also ask that you support my fellow IPN candidates for Legislative Council, Board of Education and Police Commission: Albert Roznicki, Benjamin Roberts, Guy Howard, Po Murray, Robert Murray, Ann Ziluck, Brendan Duffy, David Nanavaty, Desiree Galassi, and Bruce Walczak.

Please also consider voting for these IPN endorsed candidates: Joe Borst, Paul Mangiafico, Ruby Johnson, Lillian Bittman, Robert Mulholland and, as a BOE write-in candidate, Donna A. Monteleone.

Working together will make a difference for our community and for — all — Newtowners. It all starts on Election Day. The choice is yours.

Sincerely,

Gary Davis
