To the Editor:

A full page ad in this week’s Bee showcases our Republican candidates for election to town and school board positions. We are very proud of these men and women who offer to bring a high level of service and expertise to Newtown’s government. As promised to the Republican caucus held this past summer, we support and promote this slate of exceptional public servants. We are open and honest in our advocacy for our candidates and are dismayed to learn of the recent public declaration of support expressed by candidate Will Rodgers for the Democrat incumbent Herb Rosenthal. Party loyalty aside, Mr Rodgers’ voting choice is a matter of personal preference and a private concern. That choice should have remained to …private.

We remain steadfast in our support for Joe Borst and Paul Mangiafico. We know firsthand of the their integrity, their abilities, their vision, and their capacity to lead. We invite all voters to think carefully about the choices on November 6. We think it’s time for a change in the selectman’s office and that Joe will make that change good and positive for Newtown.
