To the Editor:

I enthusiastically support Lillian Bittman for a continued seat on the Newtown Board of Education. She has the ability and the skills to make a difference. With experience in community strategic planning, a background in journalism and communication and a successful career with IBM, she brings expertise that will be very beneficial to the Board of Education. Those that have worked with Lillian know that she asks thought-provoking questions, is open minded and fair, and is a good listener.

This is not a political race for Lillian. This is about her continuing to give to the community she loves and embraces. She cares. She cares about the community. She cares about the families. She cares about the children. She understands that bridges need to be built within the community and its organizations to make it operate more effectively. She understands there are senior citizens and their needs should be balanced with the needs of education. She understands it is difficult but important to weigh the organization’s long-term vision with the near-term economic realities.

Lillian has earned the respect of many Newtown citizens and educators through her dedication and service to Newtown schools. She was unanimously appointed by the Board of Education to fill a vacated position on the BOE in June. She would like to continue her service on the Board of Education and make a difference.
