Newtown, it is time to think about the way we vote. Our budget is out of control. The town part of our budget does not get its fair share compared to the school budget, and now we have the Independent party that basically wants more money for schools and ball fields. I wonder where we are going to get the money to pay for all of this.
We basically have good people in office now, but we, the people of Newtown, need to use common sense on spending. If we donât have it, we canât spend it. We also have Fairfield Hills, which has been a sore subject in town. If I were the one determining the use of Fairfield Hills I would have bought it, rezoned it, and then sold it to a developer that could only build what it was zoned for. I donât believe our town needs to be in the rental business, but we did not do it that way, so letâs move forward. I believe we have the next best thing, the Fairfield Hills Authority. They have done a very good job of meeting the townâs needs, and the Master Plan has a good mix. I believe we need to vote for the major parties that have a proven track record of serving Newtown well. Letâs not forget that the Independent party arose out of a high school spending advocacy group. Iâm concerned about skyrocketing taxes. We donât need this, as we will be driving away more of our senior citizens and younger families.
