To the Editor:
First, this is a âThank Youâ to the voters in District 1 and all of Newtown. It has been my honor, and pleasure, to serve you as a member of the Legislative Council for the past six years. I truly enjoyed this experience, certainly learned a lot about town government, and hopefully contributed to the town with my experience and participation. As many of you know I am not running again for the council, as my obligations to our growing business at Tier One Machining is taking much more of my time these days.
Many of you see the council in action while we deliberate the budget, our most visible activity. However, it is not the only activity. During the rest of the year we are involved in the more mundane processes of town government like reviewing and creating ordinances, deciding on land purchases, and voting on budget line-item transfers. We also approve capital projects and plan for future ones. It is sometimes not very exciting business, but it does take a significant amount of time to adequately prepare for these discussions and actions.
Second, I wanted to share some thoughts regarding the upcoming election. Recently, there has been a lot of negativism regarding town government and talk that the incumbents need to be replaced. Please consider the importance of stability that some incumbents bring to the boards and council. Specifically in District 1, Joe DiCandido and Fran Pennarola have both served on the council with me for six years. Fran is the Chair of the Ordinance Sub-Committee and Joe is the Chair of the Finance Sub-Committee. Both are dedicated to the good of the town, are active in council discussions, and work hard for you voters and taxpayers. I encourage you to vote for both Joe and Fran on Election Day.
Again, thank you for your support in the past and I look forward to maybe serving you in some capacity in the future.
Respectfully,
Mike Iassogna
